Gaines and Company Wraps Up Successful SAFE+SOUND Week
Congrats to all the participants! Gaines and Company got everyone involved during OSHA’s SAFE+SOUND Week, August 13-19.
For Gaines and Company, a site development contractor, OSHA SAFE+SOUND week is all about participation from everyone – crew, employees, management, and something to take home to families, too. So to keep it interesting, this year innovative Safety Director Dominic Pope decided to shake things up in the safety arena, calling their week a huge success.
“We have been having safety huddles and hazard recognition inspections as well as discussing safety in general and the importance of it,” says Pope. “However, this week was special.” Here’s what they did:
- Discussions from employees and management about Gaines and Company’s commitment to safety and how it fits into everyday life, both at work and home.
- Equipment inspection Gaines participation included training, equipment safety, work areas and PPE inspections. Pope used an example of hazards that can result from a defective chain or strap on a flatbed heavy equipment truck.
- Employees chose hazards then Pope asked questions specific to their line of work, including underground pipeline and ladder safety.
- Safety Smart Play “Compete for loot” and “Safety Jeopardy” were a fun part of the week and the best out of five got safety bucks good toward the Gaines and Company Safety Excellence Program Sportex shop.
“One dirt crew member came to me on Friday of the event and voiced concern about an important safety issue says Pope. “That demonstrates how SAFE+SOUND Week participation is most effective.”
OSHA’s SAFE+SOUND week is seven days but year-round at Gaines and Company. Thank you to all who participated and for your ongoing commitment to safety.
