A Fond Farewell to Chris Bixby, Long-Time Estimator

Chris Bixby, one of our original hired estimators who joined us in 2000, is leaving Gaines & Company to pursue his well-deserved retirement. This is a devastating moment for us at Gaines because of Chris’ infectious sense of humor, meticulous work and dependable nature – it is difficult to imagine not having him around. While Chris is a phenomenal estimator with decades of experience, he is also an incredible friend to all he encounters with a smile, joke and a friendly word.

We’ve depended on Chris as one of our three impressive estimators to take on smaller, more meticulous jobs that require a depth of detail and knowledge that is hard to come by. Taking on a smaller job might sound simple in general, but to an estimator this means exiting the comfort of a cookie cutter job site and entering a much more complex field. Chris is methodical: he has his own methods that guarantee thorough results in such an intricate arena. All of his customers love him and he is known throughout the industry as a great project manager for jobs large and small alike.

As a project estimator, Chris has filled a massive role within our daily operations. Once a project is awarded, our estimators will oversee the job from start to finish. They put together complete site work estimates to include everything from clearing, grading and underground utilities to curbing, paving and storm water management. They are involved with contract negotiations, billing, change order pricing and project close out. They provide schedules for our clients and monitor job costs internally. They are responsible for all material orders, survey requests and organizing site meetings with our clients. In short, Chris has spent the last 30+ years perfecting his craft in a way that is not often witnessed anymore.

Chris will be spending his retirement in Lewes, DE, with his beloved wife Sue. Outside of work, Chris has been known to discover the best local wineries and breweries, travel with his brothers and spend time golfing and enjoying the outdoors. He will certainly be enjoying his new pace of life and making the most of his retirement, but the Gaines & Co. family will miss Chris, his attitude and his expertise at every juncture. We wish you the best, Chris!
