GCDPTC Gold Sponsor & 2019-2020 Dig Smart Award Recipient
‘Tis the season of giving! Gaines and Company recently attended the 2021 Greater Chesapeake Damage Prevention Training Conference hosted in Ocean City, Maryland, where we were thrilled to be featured as a Gold Sponsor for the event. Participating in this event is valuable to us as an excavation company, allowing us to receive the most current education and industry updates while making meaningful connections and witnessing cutting edge technology.
The conference returned with much anticipation after canceling previous events due to COVID.
The two-day event honored past and present award recipients, offered valuable education and hosted a full hall of exhibitors and vendors while benefiting a fantastic charity, Construction Angels.
Construction Angels is a company dedicated to offering relief to families of fallen construction workers as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity. Their mission is to offer immediate support and financial aid to the children and spouse left behind after a construction-related tragedy occurs.

While many organizations and companies offer extensive training and resources to prevent an event like this from happening, we are deeply grateful to charities like Construction Angels who are dedicated to providing relief when an accident like this tragically occurs. The support that is offered includes financial aid, grief counseling, construction scholarship opportunities and additional scholarships to surviving children.
The GCDPTC rallied around this organization in order to raise funds for families needing to utilize this charity’s aid. Attendees and sponsors were given the opportunity to participate and donate toward a cornhole tournament and 50/50 raffle to aid these efforts.
At the end of the conference, a total of $1,215 was raised to be presented to Construction Angels. Other highlights of the conference included an inspiring lecture from the brilliant keynote speaker, Dr. Bertice Berry, demonstrations of a new Virtual Reality Excavator Simulator from New York 811, a Pandemic Panel, updates from MOSH, CGA and One Call Concepts, Inc., several networking events and tournaments.
Our own Dominic Pope, Safety Director, led discussions on the Pandemic Panel, discussing the obstacles presented by COVID-19 and how Gaines and Company expertly adapted at every turn. We were also honored to have been presented with the 2019-2020 Maryland Winner of the Dig Smart Award.
Attending this conference was an honor for our company as we continuously strive to improve our knowledge and understanding of the newest and best safety methods in order to keep our crews as safe as possible in any circumstances. The networking, awards and charity donations were the cherry on top of a valuable event about damage prevention of underground utilities and the importance of keeping safety and professionalism a priority.
Gaines and Company is a full service site development company with over 60 years of experience specializing in underground utilities, grading, excavating, erosion controls and road work in Maryland, North Carolina, Delaware and Washington D.C.
