A few of the many traits managers want to see in construction workers include skilled, hardworking, precise, team player, and safety focused. It is especially gratifying when an employee has all these traits, like Safety Excellence Achievement Award winner Raymundo Garcia.

Raymundo has been working for Gaines and Company’s North Carolina division for five years. He is an excavator operator for the grading division, which means he is responsible for safely managing heavy equipment with skill and accuracy to successfully complete grading projects. This includes not only the skills necessary to run the equipment and deliver quality work, but he must also ensure all equipment is in good condition and people are out of harm’s way.

“Raymundo is careful and precise in his work, while remaining diligent to safe work practices,” said Foreman Edwin Mata. “I nominated him for the Safety Excellence Achievement Award because I can always count on him to get work done safely the first time.”

The Safety Excellence Achievement Award is presented on a quarterly basis. Employees must be nominated for the award by their supervisor or foreman for displaying exceptional safe work practices and a strong dedication to team safety.

Leadership then reviews all nominations and selects winners from Gaines and Company’s Maryland and North Carolina locations.

Safety Director Dominic Pope added, “This award is not given freely. We have strict criteria, and all nominees must also pass our selection team, which includes members of leadership. It is an honor to receive this award, and Raymundo certainly deserves this recognition.”

Raymundo has earned certifications in OSHA 10, Heavy Equipment Operator, and Excavation Safety trainings. He is skilled in equipment operation and is always aware of his surroundings.

Raymundo received a hat and $150 in safety bucks to redeem through Gaines and Company’s online safety store. He is also eligible for the 2022 Year-End Safety Excellence Achievement Award.

Gaines and Company is a full-service grading and excavation company with nearly 70 years of experience, including underground utilities, grading and excavating, sediment and erosion controls, and road work. The organization is proud of their groundbreaking safety excellence program. In both the Maryland and North Carolina divisions, a Safety Excellence Achievement Award is given on a quarterly basis to employees who go above and beyond in their dedication to safety.
