Gaines Drivers Receive National Safety Council Recognition

Gaines and Company’s site development work requires drivers to drive hundreds of miles per day, hauling heavy loads and hazardous materials. It takes trained and certified professionals to successfully complete this work. Drivers Jason Dempsey and Steve Silverberg were recently recognized by the National Safety Council (NSC) for their outstanding and safe transportation operations.

Every year, the NSC awards drivers throughout the country with the Joseph Kaplan Safe Driver of Year Award. Nominees must have driven 15 consecutive years or 250,000 consecutive miles without a preventable collision. Judges chose winners based on their miles driven, years of service, and driving records.

“I nominated Jason and Steve for this award because they are both outstanding drivers,” said Safety Director Dominic Pope. “They are our go-to guys who we can count on to be safe, while ensuring operations aren’t held up.”

Jason and Steve were both awarded the NSC’s Safe Driver Award of Honor.

Jason has been with Gaines and Company for about 9 years. He started with the organization as a dump truck operator, but has since moved into the role as one of two fuel truck drivers for Gaines’s Maryland operations. Jason spends his days driving from job site to job site to ensure all equipment is in good, working order. He hauls about 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel and performs routine maintenance so there is never a delay in operations. He has never had an at-fault incident. Jason earned his CDL and HAZMAT certification.

Steve Silverberg

Steve has been with Gaines and Company for about 6 years. He is responsible for Gaines’s heavy haul transportation. This means he is moving equipment that is roughly 125,000 pounds. Steve drives about 300 miles per day. Even though he is on the road a lot and his work is intricate, Steve has never had an at-fault incident. Steve earned his CDL and HAZMAT certification.
