Gaines Enhances Progress, Decreases Costs With In-House Welders

Gaines’s Maryland and North Carolina in-house welders save customers’ costs while ensuring reliability and efficiency.

There are many factors that contribute to becoming an industry-leading site development company in the Mid-Atlantic region – reliability, efficiency, safety, and affordability to name a few. Gaines and Company invests in its business to retain their positive reputation, such as with their skilled, in-house welders.

When Dennis Mckissick first joined Gaines and Company in 2019, he was Gaines’s only welder. Over time, though, he found himself doing much more than welding; he became a mentor and safety leader, as well. He set the bar high for in-house welding operations. After working a couple years at Gaines’s Maryland shop, Dennis transferred to Gaines’s North Carolina location.

“There was definitely something missing in our Maryland business when Dennis transferred to our North Carolina office. We knew we had to hire another in-house welder for Maryland,” said Regional Equipment Manager Joe Falise.

So, Gaines hired welder Johnathan Knouse.

“Our Maryland business is much more efficient and reliable having a welder in-house as opposed to outsourcing our welding work. It saves us and our customers time and money,” said Joe.

Gaines and Company found that in-house welders are so beneficial to the organization that they hired an additional welder in North Carolina to work alongside Dennis — Madi Sykes.

Gaines and Company welders perform a variety of services that include line boring, hardfacing, and equipment maintenance and repairs. They even have a mobile unit for field work to service equipment that cannot be mobilized back to the shop.

“Our welders do a fantastic job keeping our equipment and machinery in working order to make sure our operations are not held up. But while they are doing this, they are also highly aware of safety,” said Safety Director Dominic Pope. “I know I can count on them to not only work safely, but look out for other employees, too.”

Gaines and Company is a full-service grading and excavation company with offices in Maryland and North Carolina. The organization has 70 years of experience in underground utilities, grading and excavating, sediment and erosion controls, and road work. Gaines and Company delivers safe, reliable, turnkey site development services in Maryland, North Carolina, Washington D.C., and Delaware on time and within budget.
