Driving North Carolina Site Development Operations
Gaines and Company lowboy driver in North Carolina prepares for a complex haul, removing trees from the construction site.
When Gaines and Company’s site development crews arrive on a job site, they are ready to work. Thanks to seamless logistical planning and hard-working drivers, the heavy equipment is onsite and ready, too!
Driver Responsibilities
“Our drivers make sure crews are ready to work every day,” said Safety Director Dominic Pope. “Our five drivers in North Carolina move permit loads throughout the state – sometimes as close as 15 miles away on paved roads, sometimes as far as 75 miles with partial segments through dirt paths.”
Drivers are also responsible for reporting vehicle maintenance needs and keeping vehicles in compliance with the Department of Transportation (DOT). This includes truck regreasing, oil changes, routine maintenance, and preventative maintenance.
Navigating roadways and maintaining trucks is just a portion of Gaines and Company’s driver responsibilities, though.
“The end goal is to ensure our equipment is fueled up, maintained, and where it is needed ahead of our site development operations. But there is so much more to it,” said Dominic. “Most of the loads they are hauling are oversized loads. These need special permits from the DOT, and navigating DOT regulations is not an easy task.”

Special Recognition
Two Gaines and Company drivers – Fuel Truck Driver Jasmine (Jaz) Massenburg and Lowboy Driver Michael Wright – were recently recognized by the company’s management for their exceptional dedication to their work.
“We recognized Michael and Jaz for going above and beyond in their commitment to their job. They quickly resolve issues while avoiding and preventing accidents,” said Dominic. “The job they do is not easy. Not only do they have to deliver safe and efficient operations, but they also have to navigate the ever-changing DOT permit regulations.”
Delivering Excellence
Each Gaines and Company driver in North Carolina has a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and necessary safety certifications, such as a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) endorsement.
“All of our drivers in North Carolina do a fantastic job of keeping production progressing while doing their best to ensure the safety of everyone on the roadways,” said Vice President David Gaines. “They are an extremely hard-working group of employees.”
Lowboy Driver Michael Wright was recognized for consistently ensuring his loads were permitted before safely delivering equipment and supplies to and from the job site ahead of operations.
