Imagine driving an average weight load of 110,000 pounds, passing hundreds – sometimes even thousands – of other drivers during your shift on urban, suburban, and country roads while avoiding accidents and incidents. Maryland Motor Truck Association (MMTA) values the safe work of truck drivers and understands the training, diligence, and hard work it takes to safely deliver loads. That is why they recognize drivers with longstanding safety commitments and performances with the Maryland Motor Truck Association’s Driver of the Month honor. Gaines and Company’s Robert (Bobby) Aberts was selected by the Maryland State Police as June 2021’s Driver of the Month.

MMTA is a non-profit trade association with over 1,000 member companies. It has served Maryland’s trucking industry since 1935 by supporting, advocating, and educating members about safe, efficient operations while delivering life’s needs throughout the country.

The Driver of the Month recognition is chosen by Maryland State Police, considering years of service, miles driven, safety record, and community involvement. All Drivers of the Month are also eligible for the Driver of the Year distinction.

“I nominated Bobby for this award because he is the epitome of a safe driver. As I read through MMTA’s nomination criteria, I immediately thought of Bobby. He’s never had an accident, incident, or DOT violation even though he drives between 1,000 and 2,000 miles per week. He carries an average load weight of 100,000 – 110,000 pounds, moving heavy loads, permit loads, and materials to our jobs every day,” said Gaines and Company Safety Director Dominic Pope. “Bobby takes pride in what he does. He is well-deserving of this prestigious honor.”
