From One State to Another: Site Developer Gaines and Company Joins Two Other Maryland-based Companies on Major Construction Project in North Carolina

This image captures it all for M.T. Laney, Inc. and Gaines and Company’s longstanding relationship, combining their site development expertise in Cary, North Carolina.

When Maryland’s Chesapeake Contracting Group was in the search for a site development contractor for the Twin Lakes Center in Cary, North Carolina, they didn’t need to look any farther than across the street– Gaines and Company. Likewise, when Gaines and Company needed a reliable soil stabilization contractor for the project, they also went to a trusted, local partner– M.T. Laney Company, Inc. Due to their longstanding relationships and reputable experiences, three Maryland-based companies have partnered on a major project and are nearing site development turnover.

Chesapeake Contracting and Gaines and Company have a long-standing relationship built upon years of trust and successful collaboration. With over 60 years of proven experience and an established presence in the North Carolina region, Gaines and Company was the obvious choice to complete site development work on the Twin Lakes Center project.

Twin Lakes Center is a 23-acre property that will consist of a Wegmans grocery store with a 33,000 square yard parking lot, along with buildings for small shops. The scope of the Gaines and Company portion of the project includes land excavation and grading and underground utility installation, as well as asphalt paving, curb and gutters, and sidewalks.

Since the ground-breaking in May, the project has not come without its challenges. Due to well-above average rainfall, including the landfall of Hurricane Florence and the aftermath of Hurricane Michael, the land has been especially saturated. This makes the paving phase remarkably difficult. Therefore, Gaines and Company called upon their trusted contractor– M.T. Laney.

“We have a long history with M.T. Laney on several projects that we have completed in Maryland,” said David Gaines, vice president, Gaines and Company. “So after a very wet season and winter quickly approaching, we knew we wanted to call upon their expertise to successfully complete soil stabilization of the Twin Lakes project, allowing the project to maintain its steady progress.”
