Gaines and Company Employee Recognized for Proactive Safety Measures

Maryland Quarterly Safety Award – 1st Quarter 2021

Gaines and Company prioritizes safety on all of its jobsites and recognizes employees who display exceptional awareness to safe work practices with the quarterly Safety Excellence Award.

Two nominees were awarded the recognition for the first quarter of 2021 in the company’s Maryland location. One of the recipients, Marvin Lopez, was recognized for taking proactive safety measures by inspecting and ensuring the correct location of tools and equipment.

Gaines and Company has delivered safe, quality, reliable site development services for nearly 70 years. These services include preconstruction services, underground utilities, grading and excavating, storm water management, roadwork, and federal installations.

“Our employees are always moving from one task to the next and one project to another. It is crucial to ensure all tools and equipment are not only in the correct locations, but also in good working condition,” said Dominic Pope, safety director.

Marvin Lopez works in the Gaines and Company Utility division as a pipelayer and has been with the organization for five years. Marvin is proactive in ensuring jobsite safety by thoroughly inspecting equipment and tools prior to use.

“Marvin always takes his time to check that all the tools are in place and in good condition,” said Marvin’s foreman, Alvaro Leon. “These proactive safety measures not only prepare his team for work, but also ensure that the tools operate safely.”

Marvin is certified in OSHA 10, Confined Space Training, and Excavation Safety Training.

Due to his dedication to safe work practices, Marvin was awarded a Safety Excellence Award certificate and $150 in safety bucks to use on gear in the company’s online safety store. Additionally, he will be considered for the year-end 2021 Safety Excellence Award.
