Maryland Quarterly Safety Award – 1st Quarter 2021
Gaines and Company employees often work on very active jobsites, making safety awareness a necessary component of their work. Because of the company’s top priority of safety, Gaines and Company recognizes employees who display exceptional awareness to safe work practices with the quarterly Safety Excellence Award.
Even though it is customary to pick only one winner at each of Gaines and Company’s two locations, two nominees stood out and were awarded Maryland’s 2021 first quarter award. Joe Ringle was one of the award recipients that Gaines and Company recognized as contributing an exceptional dedication to jobsite safety, using safety awareness to ensure the wellbeing of not just himself, but also those he works around.
Gaines and Company has delivered safe, quality, reliable site development services for nearly 70 years. These services include preconstruction services, underground utilities, grading and excavating, storm water management, roadwork, and federal installations.
“The site development work of Gaines and Company requires employees to not just diligently follow safety processes, but also work with a strong awareness of their surroundings, including other people, equipment, and work performed around them,” said Dominic Pope, safety director. “Joe was recognized for his diligence to safety awareness, providing a safer jobsite for not just himself, but everyone throughout the site.”
Joe Ringle – who was nominated for this award by his foreman, Matt Hobbs – works within Gaines and Company’s Dirt division. As a dozer operator, his responsibilities include directing trucks where to go, as well as fine grading work. It is imperative for Joe to always watch where people are throughout the site to provide safe directions for the wellbeing of everyone on site.
“Joe is deserving of this award because he is always mindful and careful. Also, he works with a proactive attitude and is excellent at thinking on the spot,” said Foreman Matt Hobbs. “Because of the way he performs his work, he not only keeps himself safe, but also ensures the safety of others on the site.”
Joe has worked with Gaines and Company for three years. He is certified in Heavy Equipment Operation and OSHA 10.
Due to his dedication to safe work practices, Joe was awarded a Safety Excellence Award certificate and $150 in safety bucks to use on gear in the company’s online safety store. Additionally, he will be considered for the year-end 2021 Safety Excellence Award.
Gaines and Company is a full-service grading and excavation company with a groundbreaking safety excellence program.
