Subcontractor Spotlight: Patuxent Companies
Family-owned Patuxent Companies has supplied Gaines and Company with aggregate materials for nearly three decades. They are a bulk supplier of construction aggregates and roll-off containers, which are required for various phases of Gaines’s on-site construction services.
“They provide a valuable service to our projects,” said Chief Estimator and Senior Project Manager Eric Boone.
Patuxent Companies has grown in scope and manpower since they were established in 1987.
When initiated, they owned just 7 dump trucks. Today, they have over 100.
Patuxent Companies is known for its reliability, stemming from its team of professional employees and fleet of well-maintained trucks.
This growth is partially due to their reputation of being a reliable supplier – and it’s not just Gaines who thinks that. They have done stadium work for the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles, and also perform work on federal installations. As Gaines knows, to enter federal sites, employees must first pass extensive background checks and follow specific procedures.
“We keep our customers happy by providing service that is above par,” said Tim Cloud, Patuxent’s Vice President of Sales. “We take pride in that. We ensure reliability through flawless communication and our state-of-the-art fleet. We don’t keep any trucks that are older than five years old.”
Their fleet isn’t the only part of their operations that they maintain for reliability.
“We are currently updating our old plant in Bridgetown with a new one – all while not interrupting production,” added Tim.

When not working, employees like to have a little fun, too. In fact, in addition to sending teams to participate in the annual Polar Bear Plunge, Patuxent also provides the roll-off containers for the event.
“We used to have a Legend car that we’d race. We like going to NASCAR races and even have employees participate in the Polar Bear Plunge,” said Tim. “Patuxent is a well-run organization that treats its people well. Typically, people who work here, retire here.”
Notable ongoing projects that Gaines and Patuxent have worked on together include Timothy Branch (Brandywine), South Lake (Bowie), Four Seasons (Kent Island), Lakeside (Trappe), and Ford’s Grant (Arnold).
